It’s his dad who should be admitted lol So tired of all the lies Surely his google dad has nothing to do with his job or his startup yeah sure! And people defending him on fb college groups? Soviet emigres claiming their kids are first Gen, among others It’s the same crowd, people from tiger cultures (not only Asian) who stop at nothing to give their kids a leg up… coming to america and lying… well guess what not all Americans are gullible I am an immigrant myself and believe me I’ve seen people playing the game!
People: "Successful parents should make their children study and work hard to earn their place, not be trust fund babies." Asian parents: "OK". People: "No, not like that." You think dad (an non-native-English-speaking immigrant, BTW) took time off of his high-level job to take his kid's school tests and APs and SATs and create is startup software and business? You think that asking for colleges to publish their admissions criteria is a scam? This kid went on live TV with more poise than anyone here. He laid out the facts and asked similar for colleges to tell students how they decide admissions. He didn't demand entry or claim racism. His objective independently-verified credentials, from multiple organizations, from the school district to College Board to Google to the free market, are better than anyone's here. But you invent reasons to hate him because of your inferiority complex.
The kid is an objectively good student, no doubt However he would have NEVER been able to do two things: create a startup and get a job at Google I am an immigrant also, and I know very well to what lengths immigrant parents go to give their kids a leg up. They don’t stop at pretty much anything if they can get away with it. I feel bad for nice American people who think everyone is as honest and ethical as themselves It is a badge of honor in some cultures (including mine, unfortunately) to take advantage of the trust
Unless the guy is a high up EVP, nepotism is frowned upon at Google. I used to work there. And gmafb.. "nice American people". FFS. Do you think legacies and the varsity blues was started by "nice American people". FFS My parents were uneducated Asian immigrants. People, no matter their skin color, will use whatever means they can to give their kid a leg up. This type of thing is not limited to Asian immigrants. What a racist comment. You are either a troll, ignorant, or self loathing.
I never said only Asians or only immigrants. Please don’t look for racism here, tough luck! Give that cr*p to gullible whites. Bringing a desired candidate for an interview is not frowned upon even at Google. I know for a fact of a high level south Asian manager at another big tech company who had his son interviewed and accepted on another team. Not saying the son is undeserving but it’s the access issue, there are many like him. And no I am not saying that only Asian managers do that! Same goes for “his” startup. I actually hope colleges start accepting normal kids with normal high achievements, that’s all.
DP His dad did not get all those amazing grades and test scores. I don’t see why people are minimizing the obvious - it is insane that someone like Stanley with exemplary grades, test scores and EC initiatives that any adult would be rightly proud of, was rejected from the vast majority of colleges he applied to (and several were in state publics for him). He literally has to study on the other side of the country from his family in either Texas or Md ( please choose Md Stanley). Our DC was accepted at some of the colleges on his list and had no where near as impressive ECs as Stanley. Stanley will flourish wherever he goes as he has brains and heart.
