The latter went against their whole social network and system of beliefs most likely. They either didn’t have a parent who pushed them, or this family was the odd one out. As someone who grew up in a place where people were encouraged to grow where they were planted and not want for much, I say it takes a lot of luck with your family and personality to stand out.
