Mcps should make it a goal to give teachers professional autonomy as well as fire not promote principals who fail to report crime. If principals are promoted when failing to report crime it sets a double standard that will cause more and more teachers to throw in the towel.
I would support this. Principals need WAY more oversight that should come from someone outside of their circle - or even MCPS. I feel too many are not objective enough. It sometimes feels like a good ole boys club that we can't penetrate once people start getting promoted to admin positions. It's not conducive to creating a healthy work environment. I truly feel many administrators treat teachers as students in the 13th grade. It's demeaning and unprofessional. How DARE they correct a colleague and undermine their authority in front of students they are in charge of? If that ever happened to me? I would walk out. No joke. I have dealt with inadequate and unprofessional admin before and left the school at the end of the year. I will do it again in a heartbeat but at this point in my career? I'd leave that minute. What is that saying? Fool me once, shame on me; Fool me twice...yeah....We don't work with people who understand how to manage people. This is coming from someone who has worked extensively outside the public school system. The way some act would NEVER fly in an actual company that truly respects and cares for its employees.
