Even if he is a nitwit, being the chosen one gives his claim to the throne more legitimacy, especially in Alicent’s mind. That detail isn’t necessary imo and presents a silly and convenient excuse for the Hightowers’ upcoming throne grab. Just show the characters as they are, even Rhaenyra is shown as being far more spineless than she should be.[/quote]

I agree it's absurd. Firstly, he has made his clear-minded intentions explicit from the throne in the presence of dozens of witnesses EARLIER IN THE SAME DAY. Secondly, he references a dream/prophecy that she has never heard before while he is in a 'milk of the poppy' fever dream. He says Aegon is the true king--well, there are 2 Aegons, 3 if you count the original. It's ridiculous. Allicent is ridiculous to be acting on account of this.
