Both cops are black. One male and one female.
This was established way back. Try to keep up. Systemic racism and unequal treatment can be perpetuated by Black people in positions of institutional power.
Sometimes it's not systemic racism and it's just really bad police work.
Sometimes it is both. In this case, you appear to have two abusive cops who have been partnered with one another, apparently creating an even more toxic dynamic because there's no "check" on the abusive behavior. You also have a (white) school staff that may have failed to step in and stop the abuse, once the officers returned the child to school grounds. Race is in that equation. Did white staff feel constrained in intervening because the officers were Black, and so was the child? Or did they feel constrained because MCPS staff are instructed to let law enforcement do their jobs without interference? Or did they just freeze, because white folks haven't been in these situations enough to know how to de-escalate the situation? The bulk of the blame here falls on the abusive cops, but we can't ignore the role that race plays in how/whether white people get involved when Black officers are abusing a Black child.
