They are both *holes. They were flying from New Orleans to Charlotte, it's a 2 hr flight. No reason they couldn't have behaved like adults for 2 hrs. My guess is he asked her not to recline and while, yes, she has the right to do so, she could have respected his request and sucked it up for 2 hrs, but no, she decided to be a jerk and recline. Now maybe he wasn't polite in his request and she kept her seat reclined just to prove a point and be a jerk, who knows. He still should not have been hitting her seat. That is juvenile and shows a complete lack of self control.
This sums the whole thing up perfectly.
But here's the thing - it is well within that woman's right to say no. I can politely ask you to give me $100, but you're not being a jerk or immoral if you decide to say no. Lots of people here are rationalizing theft or extortion - the woman is in the right. We are entitled to that which belongs to us or what we paid for. We are not entitled to things that do not belong to us.
She isn’t ENTITLED to recline FFS. She paid for transportation. If she can’t listen to the FA then she should be kicked off the flight.
How do you know she didn’t pay for a seat assignment and chose a seat that reclines? When you select a seat that doesn’t recline (back row or in front of exist row) the airline informs you before choosing that seat that it doesn’t recline. So obviously they know people care about that sort of thing. She paid for a reclining seat. He should have paid for the exit row and then the seat in front of him couldn’t recline! Problem solved!
When you buy a ticket you aren’t guaranteed particular equipment or seat assignment.
If you pay to pick your seat, yes you are!
This. If your seats are reclining seats, you are entitled to recline them. People pay extra for window seats and seats with more legroom. The cheapest seats are the ones in the back with the least legroom, middle seats. The man in the video got one of the cheapest seats if not the cheapest seat on the plane (last row, least room, no recline). And he was a big guy. Don’t get that seat if you need more room.
