For those complaining about players playing people, have you realized that if it wasn’t for U17s playing up with the 18/19s, lots of players in the younger age groups would be seeing much less playing time. At FCV, 6 02s are playing up and at Spirit VA, 5 are playing up (1 isn’t shown on the roster yet). Also, you can’t talk about how FCV brought in ringers from the older team to help during their Nationals run. I asked this summer if that’s really what happened, and I was scolded (by presumably a left-back player’s parent) that it was inappropriate to ask why FCV would leave a season-long starter at home,
I know. This board is filled with FCV trolls trying to push their propaganda. Anything they can do to smear the competition...
LMAO! That is the most pathetic defense out there! No, nothing is wrong, it's just a smear campaign and propaganda! hahaha!    What's hurting Spirit's reputation is Spirit. If it did a better job, there wouldn't be angry parents. but since they are an NWSL DA academy team, they can do whatever they want and US Soccer will never take away their DA status. Spirit VA that is. Spirit MD may be different. In fact, it is different in that it has no EDP and smaller rosters. If they play up girls, those girls are on the roster and part of the team, not benching a team member. So that's already different.
Yes it's propaganda because in one breath you are spewing generics about WS in your complaints like you you were fooled while in the next breath stated FCV would never do this. What is the point in defending FCV? When presented with facts about how FCV does take away playing time from players - you defend them by saying it's not the same. How is it not the same? Those FCV kids lost playing time too. So you are not really concerned about playing time for your DD? Then to top it off you say DA is fine but just not Spirit. Once again - support FCV, smear WS. Your logic does not make sense. You over played your hand. The only logical conclusion is that you are an FCV parent or coach on the recruiting trail.
I didn't say FCV is great. I just said anything BUT Spirit VA. Spirit MD, FCV, Arlington, anything else. Pretty consistent. And yes, FCV does not play players UP to bench age appropriate players. Let's see if a single FCV 04 plays up while there are FCV 03 DP players in the wings. Let's watch the WHOLE year for that to happen. Or Arlington. Or Spirit MD. Any other club. And guess what? The boys don't do it either. This is just Spirit VA garbage.
Yes, the boys do it. It's very common in fact. When the club thinks it would be developmentally appropriate for a player to play up all the time, that player will usually be officially rostered on the older team full time. For other players, the club may think it makes more sense to only play them up on occasion. Sometimes a club, knowing it is playing weaker opposition, may have several play ups across various age groups on the same day. Some clubs these kind of opportunities out as a carrot to motivate their most talented players - by giving players who may have pretty much locked down a starting spot in their own age group something to compete for. There are all kinds of different ways that clubs utilize play ups, and some do more than others. The point is that it is totally normal, very common, and not only permitted but highly encouraged by US Soccer. They would rather see clubs challenge talented players by pushing them out of their comfort zone than keep everyone playing at age just to chase results. Unlike others, I don't have any reason to think that you are on some kind of "smear campaign," and/or posing as a WS parent when you really aren't. But I do think that your comments reveal a lack of awareness of how things operate at this level of soccer. Other than the 25% start rule at some age groups, there are no guarantees of playing time. More to the point, there is definitely no guarantee that players will only have to compete for playing time among players their own age. And yes, I get it. My kid doesn't play up, there have been times younger players have played up on my kid's team and my kid has gotten less playing time as a result. When that happens, it sucks. But it never once occurred to me that there was anything unfair about it. It's called competition. If you don't understand that, or you just find it all too upsetting to deal with, then perhaps DA level soccer is not for you.
