The other elephant in the room is that our economic system requires a lot of cheap labor and there aren't a lot of great solutions for how to change that.
Exactly. We have to pay workers like dirt. There’s no alternative!
DP.. then why do Trump's resort keep hiring cheap foreign labor if there is alternative?
Because, like most big companies, Trump’s companies only care about profit. How is this difficult for you to understand?
Trump commented on this before. If he hired American workers at higher wages his properties would not be competitive. Look at the restaurant industry, for example. I have a friend who owns a restaurant in a restaurant district. All have illegal labor working in the kitchens. If he hired legals it would increase his prices significantly and he would lose business, and maybe not be able to continue. This is why eVerify is so important. It would force all to comply and would result in the self deportation of millions who would not be able to work. Sad that the republicans really do not want to solve the problem.
As I said before this is the elephant in the room. We have an economic system where companies rely on very cheap labor and the cost of improving wages inevitably gets passed on to the consumer rather than to the owner's bottom line. The ultimate responsibility goes back to the shareholders and owners turning a profit. It's a bad economic system when it concentrates wealth of the top and artificially depresses wages in the name of competition. This is ultimately why lawmakers will inevitably not go after any company that hires illegal immigrants and why e verify is so toothless. It is far more politically convenient to punish the individual immigrants versus the employers.
