If the people who entered scores for earlier MaxPrep games did it by quarter, then it is reflecting the average number of goals they score per quarter. The more scores for each team that were just entered as finals (with no quarter breakdown), the further off the 'prediction' is (thus Langley appearing to be favored over Madison, Robinson only being 'favored' by 5 over Woodson, and West Potomac only being 'favored' by 1 over Fairfax).[/quote]

I still don't understand your point. The prediction is based on the scores of the games played. I do not see what the goals per quarter aspect that you raised has on the prediction. How is the data (the scores of games) bad?[/quote] It’s not a prediction of what the score will be between the teams based on their strengths. It’s an attempt at a historical look of how many points they have scored per quarter…but since they don’t often get the per quarter scoring from previous games, half of it is “divide total score by 4 and apply that to each quarter”. That’s how you get a score prediction with Langley (ranked 10th by MaxPrep) “beating” Madison (ranked 3rd by MaxPrep). It’s not actually a score prediction based on the matchup. It’s simply an estimate of how many goals they’ve scored per quarter over the course of the season, generated with not enough data to be useful or accurate.[/quote]
