I was at the open practice that 30 Black held this week (with my DD) and eavesdropped on multiple conversations amongst current team parents and desperately want-to-be-team parents like myself. There was major drama surrounding that practice. I must say that I was quite surprised that M&D as an organization and 2030 Black as a team would have such (reasonably out in the open) messiness going on for prospectives to hear about and witness. The next few weeks before July tryouts are going to be quite interesting, to say the least 😬🫣
There is no drama. The team will add 1 or 2, maybe 3 standout players like most m&d teams do and they will continue to be amazing. Unless girls leave, there isn’t going to be massive turnover on that team.
Wrong. My sister‘s daughter is on that team and attends SPSG (as does my own DD), which is why my daughter got the invite to attend. I was already well aware of backstage team stuff but to see things play out for myself in real time, and hear that others saw all that I was seeing, was definitely unexpected. Lastly, if you were there as I was, and don’t know what I’m talking about, then you must’ve had your head in the sand for the entire practice.
I think there’s high level drama on all of these teams when you approach and especially are at this critical year. As someone whose daughter is younger and there’s drama there too approaching tryout time, it just gets exponentially worse and ends up tapping into the worst tendencies of parents (and sometimes kids too). It’s with all the top teams where insiders have so much to lose and outsiders have so much to gain. Then also with lesser teams because the drama around who is abandoning ship and paranoia around not being only ones left on a drastically weakened team.
