They are projecting Centreville’s enrollment will decline to under 2100 by 2029. So I still don’t know why they would spend our money to expand it to 3000. You can talk about how the marginal cost of additional seats goes down during a renovation, but it still costs more money that could be put to better use elsewhere and avoid unwanted boundary changes. If they can articulate a specific long-term vision to use all these additional seats at Centreville (like maybe reassigning all of the current Fairfax island and part of Chantilly there), that might be a conversation worth having. But that conversation hasn’t taken place and instead they are developing scenarios to bridge the Fairfax island to the main Fairfax attendance area by reassigning part of Woodson to Fairfax. Also, the Centreville parents who’ve posted here in the past are generally aghast at the idea of a 3000-student school. Meanwhile they continue to neglect Chantilly and McLean and offer those schools nothing other than boundary changes (or, in McLean’s case, boundary changes layered on top of boundary changes). Make it make sense, because all I can see are School Board members who are cowards or asleep at the wheel.
Because the kids they are displacing from Chantilly to fit the 20171 kids who currently go to Oakton need to go somewhere.
So you’re suggesting they will move enough Oakton kids to Chantilly, and Chantilly kids to Centreville, to justify expanding Centreville to 3000? That seems like a stretch to me, given that Oakton was also recently expanded. As were Herndon and Madison. Just not to 3000 seats.
But, Chantilly is the closest school to those kids. Lots of Chantilly kids live very close to centreville, as well as to Chantilly.
