I think there are a lot of great winners in here, but I have to agree that D'artagnan is first among equals. I am not really of Spanish heritage, but my (very anglo, US born) family lived in Spain and all over Latin America. My mother was born in Havana and a lot of spanish permeated our lives (my aunt has a latin name). I have loved the name Mercedes for a long time and really wanted to use that for a girl, at least as a middle name. But I know the car association is too strong, especially as we are clearly of anglo/german extraction. Here's my question: what's the take on Atticus as a boy's middle name? Clearly a reference to To Kill a Mockingbird...is it too pretentious? First name is pretty "generic" and tame.
My dad was a civil rights lawyer & always planned to name his firstborn son Atticus. Thankfully he ended up with 4 daughters (&,no, none of us are named either Harper or Scout). He had to settle for naming the family cat Atticus but even that was short-lived as I, being not quite two when we got him, insisted on calling our new pet "Atticat". The rest of family quickly followed suit &,much to my dad's chagrin, it stuck. So if you do end up using Atticus (even as a middle name), know that there is a retired civil rights lawyer out there who wholeheartedly supports your choice! :P
