It's not a question of being able to afford it or not. Who can't afford a few pizzas?  It's about saying, "ENOUGH!  It's all too much!"  An afternoon party from 2:30-4:00 (or, as some other PP said, anytime between 1-5) does NOT call for more food and I am not going to give in to the constant pressure for more, more, and more in this society. Seriously, did none of you go to parties when you were a child?  In the '70s and '80s?  With cake, ice cream, and lemonade?  Maybe koolaid?  Maybe Hi-C?  And play games in someone's basement, and then go home?  Did none of you have or attend parties like this?  Nobody?  [/quote]

Grew up in the 80s and went to a ton of birthday parties. We didn't have basements but parties were generally in the back yard or the community room of whatever complex people lived in. There was always food. Always. Cake came after the food. [/quote]
