I remember Sochi. What I do not remember is Putin threatening potential travelers with their state police and the confiscation and search of their telephones and laptops for the travelers' possible jailing. What I don't recall is Putin threatening the athletes to think twice before coming to the US and trying to get the Olympic Committee to ban their participation, as Trump has threatened Iranian athletes. And I would bet in the polymarket that you, too, do not remember such threats. [/quote]

The point is that even authoritarian countries clean up their act for foreigners when they host elite sporting events. Trump doesn't seem to understand that. That is why foreigners are reluctant to travel to the US - even for the World Cup.[/quote]
