Wow. I think we need a lot more information. Of course, the natural instinct is assume that everything alleged is correct and horrible. Concurrently, it’s difficult to understand why there was no evidence.
What constitutes as evidence besides the student's testimony?
+1. NO 11 yr-old boy would make this up. Victims need to be believed.
Not saying this is what occurred but an 11 or 12 year old boy who had a very conservative family and was gay might say something to protect himself from the conservative parents. The child could have been abused by someone else because perhaps they still come in contact with the perpetrator but is too afraid to say where else it occurred so blurted out it occurred at school. Clearly the boy was traumatized in some way. It is just really hard logistically to understand how this happened at school without other parents coming out saying there were incidents of other students being sexually harassing, being touched inappropriately, being followed into bathrooms. To just go from nothing to not one but two young students at the school are rapists also is hard to believe. And not only rapists but able to plan together to wear masks and disguise their voices and ensure no one enters the bathroom.
When would the other parents have come forward yet? Until late Thursday no one knew it had happened. And the school’s emails since then, basically saying the kid made it up, would probably make anyone thinking of coming forward think twice. I think one of the reasons the family sent the email was in hope that more people would come forward. If I was a conspiracy theorist I might even wonder if the school email was deliberately harsh to dissuade anyone else from coming forward. Also-I know the family, they are quite liberal so I really doubt this is a kid afraid to come out. If anything I think the email shows how brave the kid is— it’s not easy for a kid to tell everyone he was anally raped ( they know many people know who the victim is). Not that he has anything to be ashamed of, but still many would be reluctant to do it, and if they could do this I can’t imagine they couldn’t tell the parents about their orientation. This is also one of the many reasons I believe the victim here—I think very few boys would make something like this up, from fear of social repercussions. Bullying or even touching? Maybe. But to make this up seems unlikely.
