My 12 yo learned last year that people will pay to have their driveways done. Between Monday and a Tuesday he and a friend made over $150 each and still got some sledding in. My older child chose to sled with friends 4-5 hours a day everyday this week and I was fine with that too. As long as they aren’t sitting around 12 hours a day I’m happy. They both dog sit, babysit etc. I find if we don’t give them money for everything all the time they naturally decide to find ways to earn it.
This is the key. I wouldn't want to shovel either if my parents gave me money for what I wanted. The wealthiest people I know still make their kids work in the summers when they are teens and in college. They don't give allowances.
