Be aware that the Honors decisions are a little puzzling. They have no clear criteria for the Honors program listed anywhere, and based on the students my Hokies know who were admitted to Honors, it's difficult to tell what criteria were used (just meaning that it's not based strictly on academic stats). There's no separate honors application, so decisions are being made on factors from the regular application.

It's been of no consequence that they didn't get into honors. The dorms housing Honors LLCs are not any nicer than others, both my Hokies have been able to tap into research experiences, and so far, they've gotten all the classes they wanted/needed such that there's not loss on any early registration benefit. I'm sure there are some good points to it, but unlike other schools where Honors seemed like it was a real game changes, I don't sense that's the case at VT.[/quote]

I have Hokies too and agree with this assessment.  Mine have had all the opportunities in the world at VT without being in the honors college.  Probably because the school is full of very smart kids so it's not like you need a separate "cohort" to make that happen.  Everyone is smart.  I just don't see what more honors could offer there, or at most good schools.[/quote]
