Every single Einstein cluster parent I have spoken to in our neighborhood is livid about this plan. We might have different ideas to make it better but overall we pretty much agree it is going to be a total sh$t sh0w that will hurt our kids. We know this because many of my neighbors' kids already got to be the guinea pigs for an elementary school program that MCPS didn't properly plan or support. Last year MCPS put out a report about how Black, Brown and disabled kids in the program experienced lower math and literacy rates because of this. These exact same kids will be the guinea pigs for the new regional program model.
This will hurt all kids as no one is getting their needs met. The kids struggle are not getting the right support starting in elementary school and the high achievers cannot thrive as they don’t have the classes they need. Our kids have gone through tons of curriculum changes with no stability. In elementary school, they were not given a good foundation and that’s partly why we see kids struggling. They aren’t bad kids, they aren’t dumb kids, they were not given what they needed. And, now instead of improving things, our kids will get even less without access to the dcc and the schools working together. Many of us cannot provide transportation multiple times a day till our kids start driving and then provide a car, maintenance and insurance. Instead of this mess, use the money to give kids a good foundation in elementary and any child not at grade level extra support in reading, writing, spelling and math. That’s the key to improvement. Mcps has the money. It’s time to put it where it’s important…the students. We want our kids to have the same opportunities that other kids have and we want all the kids in other schools, similar to ours, lacking the courses, clubs and extras to have them too. That is equity. And, we want the kids struggling to be provided with the right support starting to get them back on track so they can be successful not only in school but after graduation.
