I always considered Prep to be on the same level as Stone Ridge and VISI, but not anymore. When you look at the matriculations, SR and VISI are much much stronger. Many going to top 20 schools on their own merits (as well as some recruits). It is not as lopsided as Prep, which seems to only get athletes and wealthy Chinese students into the top schools. Quite disappointing.
Well, if getting your son into a top school is your number one overarching priority, then Prep would not be the place for your family. Thank goodness there are other schools for you to choose from. The families that do choose Prep seem to have a different (and maybe broader) set of objectives and expectations. I can assure you that the Prep parents are almost universally pleased with the colleges their sons move on to after Prep.
Well we chose our Catholic HS for the excellent curriculum and focus on service and Catholic faith. The great college my kid got into was due to his hard work, and perhaps the fact he did so well in a school with a challenging curriculum. I don't know why this isn't the outcome for Prep students.
What HS did your son attend? You protest a bit much.
My son attended Gonzaga and went on to Notre Dame. A good number of non-athlete, non legacy GZ students also were admitted to ND that year. Not seeing much action with ND at Prep these days. That is problematic for what is supposed to be a top a Catholic HS that used to send many boys to ND as well as other top 20 schools.
So that’s the reason for your “disappointment” with the schools GP grads went to? Not enough, in your judgement, went to Notre Dame? ND is a great school, but not everyone is enthralled with it. One of our son’s was recruited by ND for lacrosse. After his official visit he cooled on the school. His reason was that he didn’t think he could ever muster the level enthusiasm for any school that ND seemed to inspire/require. It seemed “cult-like” to him. GP not sending many boys to ND, isn’t “problematic” at all, just because you say it is.
Both send a fair share to Jesuit schools. Prep sends more kids to Georgetown, and also to Notre Dame. Yes, Gonzaga sends some to Notre Dame and also many to Fairfield. Prep sends more to top 10 schools like Princeton, Hopkins, etc.
