Next week is the series finale. I’ve been semi hate watching all along. So much defies credulity and logic. And yet I still watch it. I was really hoping they’d leave Gary’s health in limbo rather than this tear jerking finale.
It's tearjerking because it's realistic. Cancer recurs, people try to fight it in ways that sometimes are grasping at straws (the Mexico treatment idea), people marry because they realize they're close to death and want to make that statement of marriage. Ask me how I know all this....Right down to the marriage part. Very like my late relative's situation. It would have been easier on viewers' emotions to leave Gary in limbo so people could imagine a post-series world where he's OK, or lives longer. But I give the show credit for rounding out the run with what looks like it'll be Gary's death. It's the most realistic direction they've taken in a long time. And I have to praise James Roday Rodriguez as Gary. The mordant humor in a seriously ill person is realistic too, in the best way.
I watched the latest episode in the middle of the night (insomnia), I cried from minute 4 until the end!
