Well, one of my ancestors was a union organizer in the ports and the City described in his journals was a racist place where only white men could have a hope of getting into the union and women were exploited as what you call sex workers but he called whores.   SF got its liberal veneer when post WWII suburbanization cost an exodus and cheap housing that attracted artists, counterculture folk, and men and women challenging their sexual identities.

My parents still live there and are ultra liberal.   We have to help them financially because they never worked consistently and have snorted any money they earned.  They will be here at Christmas and lecture us for being Trump supporters (we are Democrats) because our children have their own beds, the house is clean, and we allow the children to believe in Santa Claus.   My husband has learned to ignore them and take the children for walks and bike rides during their outbursts.   I stay there to make sure they don’t do something to the house or themselves.

They are liberal San Francisco to the core, but actually selfish and immature [/quote]
