Why would there be words of comfort to the family.   This was a resignation letter to her employer, not an apology or sympathy letter to the family.   It would have been inappropriate (and likely legally unadvisable) to express any remorse.[/quote]

It’s been clearly established that a forthright and sincere apology from the negligent medical provider would forestall legal action in a great many cases.
