As an immigrant, I could never understand why there was such a disparity in education quality across the U.S. I couldn't understand why poor black areas had such worse schools compared to more affluent (and usually white) areas. But this thread has been an eye-opener. I understand this much better now. It seems the more affluent folks want their money to benefit only them and their families. They don't see the benefit to society of elevating everyone and giving a good education to all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Don't people want the US to succeed long-term? How does keeping poor people less educated benefit a country in the long-run?
you are describing communism, America is capitalism and freedom. You are free to move to any community you want.
Well you need to spend a few days analyzing budget documents and CIP-facilities documents. Have you figured out the per head cost for each IB diploma candidate? Everything you posted is not relevant to Fairfax County and spending per school site. Guess what? I know immigrants in Herndon that feel ripped off by bat money flowing to Bailey's and Hunters Woods. Not to mention the Herndon AP costs v the wads of money on IB. Then schlep over to Reston and it's special tax district. 3 million extra from our property taxes goes to TJ. IB middle school? FX is not a county on Long Island in NY state with mini school districts and extremes in local ability to fund. This is not about affluent families with high amounts of property taxes. It's about FX county and inequity.
