Then came the 1964 civil rights act where the parties flipped (you'll notice the majority of the Confederate states are red), and Republicans supported Barry Goldwater (a racist). Even a young bright eyed Mitch McConnell didn't support his racist ass. Strom Thurmond another racist switched from the Democrat party and went to the Republicans around that time as well.
