I love a child who has already survived a harrowing trip to escape Gilead.
I have the opportunity to visit this child in Canada, see she is thriving, and am invited to stay there.

Serena wants Nichole badly, but she seems to not want her to grow up in Gilead. If she were to just defect to Canada now, Luke would not willingly hand over Nichole. If Serena gets Nichole back through official diplomatic channels and then leaves Gilead it’s Luke who would have to fight for custody of Nichole. Neither one is Nichole’s biological parent and neither one seems to have an ironclad claim to custody from an objective perspective, but the international community seems to be caught up in ideas of diplomacy as opposed to what’s right and just.
