So the apologists have moved from "cops don't have to use proportional force, they're trained and have to act aggressively to keep us safe" to "this man wasn't in his right mind you can't hold him to any standard whatsoever"?  Just so I'm clear, I'm guessing you still think he should get the cop get out of jail free card even though now you're not pretending he was acting as a cop (off duty or otherwise) but was just a brain injured shoot-em-up zombie, right?[/quote]

You are seriously irrational. 
If an off duty officer is attacked, they are going to react. 
If in the course of the attack, they sustain a blow to the head, they may not make the best decisions/use of their training. How about don’t throw cops to the ground? Don’t attack families?  That’s an easy way not to be shot.
