Why?

We would likely have no USA without George Washington.  Slavery was wrong, but he was much more than a slaveowner.  You do know there were slaves for centuries?  We can be grateful that the country was set up with a Constitution which (though slowly) enabled us to get rid of that practice?  
Do you know that there are still slaves in Africa today?

Our founders had flaws.  Slavery was a major one.  But, they set up a country that is like no other.  Can't we honor that?[/quote]
These people have already been honored. Some people are offended by them and are saying they shouldn’t have been honored.
