Does anyone know if this kid will now receive the baseline MLS pro Salary of 80k per year? All while finishing online High School and practicing with the 1st team, i.e. way better development and coaching over the academy...it seems like this is a no brainer for this family.
Yes by contract he will get the homegrown baseline salary which is a reserve player salary which is 80k per year. He isn't ready to practice with the first team or with men and he will most likely stay with the u19 or even u17 which is why the move is questionable. Definitely NOT a no brainer for the family. I do understand and appreciate that 80k is a lot of money for many families and I don't underestimate that. But to give up college scholarships for this is just not a smart decision. Not in DCUs system. If the got 250k, which is about what 4 years of college is running these days then I could justify that if he banked all of it. These homegrown deals are just not good for the players. And for this kid, he just Wed himself to one of the worst organizations in the MLS and threw away college money. I just can't get on board with that. Not for 80k.
