He tried to publish a book titled "If I Did It", a hypothetical confession where he described how the murders could have happened. There was a huge public outcry and it was cancelled by the publisher.  He had to sell a significant portion of his sports memorabilia collection.  He was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping and went to prison for 9 years.
