He did rise to the rank of command sergeant major, but upon retirement his rank reverted to master sergeant.

Had children via IVF.
Walz almost always refers only to "fertility treatments," but a couple of times has used the term IVF. In fact he and his wife underwent IUI, commonly referred to as IVF but actually a different, more affordable fertility treatment.

Won an award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce (2006).
It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce,

Taught in China for a year through a program at Harvard University  (2006).
It was a program affiliated with Harvard.

Earned the title of Nebraska Citizen-Soldier of the Year (1989).
He did indeed earn this award, but so did 51 other people. I'm not sure how this counts even under the strictest definition, but I'm including it for completeness.

Referred one time to "weapons of war, that I carried in war" (2018).
Has admitted this was a misstatement.

Denied he had been drinking when he was pulled over in 1995 for speeding (2006).
Possibly the only serious falsehood, from 18 years ago. However, he corrected the record himself six years ago when he ran for governor.

He was frocked as a CSM. The promotion was conditional on Walz graduating from SMA at FT Bliss. He didn’t go or dropped out-he won’t clarify which one- so according to military regulation he was NEVER a SGM or a CSM.

Walz knows this but insists on being addressed and referred to as CSM.

It’s very embarrassing he insists on being called CSM. He is a total ahole.

Your last statement is a lie, plain and simple. His complete military record would in fact indicate that he at one point in his career attained the rank of CSM. His retirement record is totally different from his retirement records and would indicate his lower rank for pension purposes. It is no different from a former SES attaining that rank but unable to hold onto it and retiring at the GS level or a someone who briefly held a senior SES rank retiring at a lower SES level. Your final SF-50 would show your last grade and title held before retiring. However, your EOPF record would indicate all the positions and ranks held in your employment record. So yes, Walz military records would indeed refer to CCM in his records. [/quote]

Whatever you are trying to communicate is unclear, but no matter, you are wrong. His retirement records correctly reflect he was an e8 who made the e9 list for promotion, but because he didn’t successfully attend and graduate from SMA, he was always a Master Sgt e8. You don’t receive the e9 promotion until you graduate SMA.

His e8 rank is what he earned and is paid at as a retiree. He wasn’t promoted to e9 and then demoted when he retired. He was a CSM in name only when he served as BN CSM.

I know this because this exact scenario happened to me at e7. I served as a First Sergeant e8 ( that’s an e8 that has a Command, an e8 that doesn’t have a command like Walz is a Master Sgt.) I was an e7 in military records and pay despite serving as an e8 1sg. Fun fact: a lot of Soldiers don’t like frocking; they will refuse to address you by your frocked rank as you technically aren’t the frocked rank.

But Walz never was a CSM. He was always an e8. He was never promoted to e9, he only made the list to be eligible for e9 conditional upon his graduation from SMA. US Army HRC doesn’t promote you to e9 until you graduate SMA. It’s ridiculous you are trying to pretend Walz’s lie is a technicality- he’s straight up lying and he knows it. [/quote]

And the campaign has corrected the language to be that he served at the Command Sergeant Major rank and retired as a master sergeant.  This is correct.  He may not have held the rank of Command Sergeant Major, but he did serve at a position as a CSM while he was frocked for the position.  He did not complete the required training and was never formerly given the rank, but he did serve in a CSM position while frocked.[/quote]
