Bad breath isn't necessarily poor hygiene.  I once dated a guy who had that issue. He brushed his teeth a few times a day and took care of himself.  It wasn't his fault.

A lot of things people think of as bad hygiene aren't necessarily.  acne, body odor, greasy skin or hair.  Sometimes a person can practice good hygiene and still have issues.

Women usually will go to a doctor or a dermatologist.  But I think men are less inclined to do that.  Maybe it's embarrassment or they don't think that those things can be resolved with medical treatment, but sometimes they can.[/quote]

Bad breath is health issue, not a hygiene issue. It's not a dire health issue, but we are more inclined to be attracted to the optimally healthy.

Same with acne, hair on women, greasy hair and skin, etc. These are often hormonal issues. And PCOS, a hormonal type of infertility, is one of the leading causes of infertility in women. So it makes sense that these are undesirable characteristics.
