Irish Catholics are a breed of their own and dominate the Catholic community in the DMV to such an extent that they have a distorted view of the greater Catholic community. Irish Catholics in general are frustrated wasps who envy the Anglo-Saxons. Continental Catholics see both the Irish and British as insular, un impressive and often drunk. Would the world be any worse off if those islands sank into the sea? The Jesuits are another story. There are plenty of Catholics who consider the Jesuit institutions like GTOWN and BC. To be CINO.
Because there are so few "Continental Catholics" in DMV, their opinion of the Irish Catholics would hardly seem to matter. Georgetown and BC are still highly desirable destinations for the graduates of local Catholic high schools, especially the two Jesuit high schools. Combing through the Parish Times shows almost no trace of 8th graders bound for anything other than Catholic or public schools for high school. The characterization of the Irish as "frustrated WASPs" is weird. Instead they stick to their own culture and history which features a lot of mistreatment by the group you say they envy.
Irish Catholic is Catholic in name only at this point - a heavy burden for the Church http://www.bishop-accountability.org/irish_priests_in_us/
