I’ve made a couple of posts on this thread. I’m in MoCo. Have lived here for more than 20 years as an adult post college / grad school and lived here in high school too. It’s on the decline by every measure. More poverty, more crime (yes, some improvement to violent crime in the last couple of years, but thefts / lesser crime still an issue), infrastructure is deteriorating, and schools, what drew me to the area as a parent, have slid significantly. We were once the top school system in the region - no longer. No, I’m not MAGA. I’m a proud Dem. No, I’m not in NoVa. And, no, I’m not anti-MoCo. To the contrary! But concerns like mine are dismissed on this thread and by our leadership. Yes, looking at you Fani Gonzalez. I will vote accordingly until I can move out of the county.
All of your measures of decline are true pretty much everywhere you go in the DMV. I'm not sure what measure you're using for "top school system," but head over to the schools forum, and you'll find tons of dissatisfaction with Arlington and Fairfax also. I wouldn't blame anyone for moving away from the DMV because I don't think this is an ideal region to live except for having a good job market, but we have jobs we like and we like our neighborhood, so for as long as we're in this region, we're happy in MoCo.
