Parents need to learn how to discipline their kids. Schools are not designed to be a surrogate parent. [b]Get the sped and crazies out of gen ed if they can't sit still and get their work done in a timely fashion on their own. Expel poor behaving kids. [/b]Grade with expectation. Teachers can't be held responsible for much of the low performance and chaos since they're not allowed to mete appropriate consequences.

To compare, imagine if school orchestras and sports teams were forced to put up with what gen ed teachers experience. Do you think those would be able to function and the directors/coaches would stick around?

Many parents want this too.  In fact last year there was a kid in DCs class who really shouldn't have been and their parent knew it and was trying SO HARD to get their DC in a self-contained classroom and was rejected at every turn.  It was a hard situation all around but the parents didn't have $$ for a specialized private, which was really thr only alternative available to them.[/quote]
