Healthy food is expensive.  Unhealthy, preservative-laden foods are cheaper.  Plus poor people often lack access to good grocery stores, along with often suffering from stress, lack of sleep, lack of access to healthcare and many other issues that contribute to poor health which can also lead to obesity.

The only way to become obese is to consume an excess of calories, continuously, over a long period of time. Hard to buy the narrative we have so many starving people that are 50+ lbs overweight  [/quote]

Food desert as a cause for people eating unhealthy is a myth.  Stores will carry items people will buy. The culture around food in low income communities is that of valuing junk and processed foods over heathy foods- which is why stores in poor communities don’t stock tons of fresh and heathy items.  People don’t buy it.  And when these same people go to regular grocery stores (which most do), they still don’t buy items that are healthier.  Food desert is a the result of supply and demand, but it isn’t a cause of unhealthy eating.
