I don’t care at all about this specific guy and think his domestic issues alone are enough to convince me he’s a terrible person. But that is not the point. The law is the point. And the law was clearly and repeatedly violated here with his removal. And it’s shocking how many people are defending that.
This. If Trump can remove due process for migrants and declare anyone an illegal immigrant terrorist on his word alone, without needing to prove it, then he has removed due process for *all of us*, not just migrants.
People who enter a country illegally do not receive due process with paid for lawyers, and multiple chances and time in courts in most countries in the world, important to keep in mind. However, I agree with you, we have all these laws for a reason, they exist for all of us; it’s what makes our country different from most others. However, I wish most would agree that it’s best for anyone who brakes the law (once, felony or multiple misdemeanors) to be removed expeditiously. The second man they now want to return to the U.S. reportedly has a cocaine history and if that’s true, I have absolutely no desire for us to spend all this money and time and resources on one man to bring him back, or keep him, or those like him, here in the first place. Please deport, but yes, with (expedited) due process. Also, I would hope they provide a legal path for those families of mixed status or decades in the country, I’d rather the country focus on completely revamping legal immigration from the mess it has been, than spending all the resources and money on continuing to support illegal immigration.
