My DH is seriously thinking about this. He was eligible to retire in Oct 2024 and he planned on retiring in August. He thinks it’s a great deal. I don’t know what to think (I’m not a fed and I’m much younger than him so nowhere near retirement) Any thoughts?
Looks good to know. I know a few folks that are going to take it.
The only good reason to take it is if you are ok with knowing you will likely (1) have to work or (2) not get paid. So if a person was going to retire anyway, it may be worth the risk, as if you have to work, you can just move up your retirement date. So for your husband, he is not risking much and potentially getting paid not to work. Beyond that, I do not see how you could even look for a job given your agency can require you to work the entire time and there are ethics rules about what other jobs you can take. Between there being no signed budget, the threat of budget cuts, and the rules on limits on using admin leave, it seems unlikely people will actually get paid not to work.
