In terms of dealing with prospective students, the contrast between SWW and McKinley could not be more stark. McKinley sent out the same dress for success message, but it was "look your best." They also spent over two hours there. It felt like they were invested in getting to know the students. Are we supposed to be charmed by the elitism at SWW? Maybe it will feel different on the day, but this whole process has felt gross from beginning to end and I hate that my kid wants to go there. And I hate that I feel that way because there are a lot of kids who deserve to go there and won't get that shot and it seems super arbitrary.
This seems a little extreme and shortsighted. Yes the opaque process is a nightmare and incredibly frustrating - you have very little control over whether your kid gets an interview/gets in. But, it is a nice school if/when you get there. Pretty uniformly great cohort of kids more than anything - which is huge in DCPS (or at any school, really).
