Video report re: the Petworth carjacking. There was another in the same location last weekend. Warning: you can hear the victim screaming and she had a head injury. The neighbors seem great, wonder how many will stay? Hope the victim has no lasting TBI issues. [twitter]https://twitter.com/AllisonPapson/status/1744921510093967587[/twitter]
We live nearby and unfortunately are thinking about leaving if DC's trajectory continues. This neighborhood (which isn't Petworth, it's Manor Park, just south of Takoma) is wonderful and we've always felt very safe--would be heartbreaking to leave--but the cracks are starting to show.
The neighbors seem very nice and seem like decent people.
Absolutely. We could not ask for better neighbors. The good thing is that neighbors are very concerned about incidents like this and want to take action to keep everyone safe, but it's hard with our current leadership.
Have they/you considered voting out current leadership? The only way at this point is is to support the ranked voting initiative which will allow more candidates to filter up, and then look for a run off that includes moderate candidates of any party (based on their record, experience and platform- takes research)- and support them very actively . If that's too much of a long shot for you and your neighbors and it's easier to keep voting in the most recognizable names and checking off dumb social initiatives (is psyllobin sale coming up again?) Then yes, not much will change and your best bet is to move.
I mean, of course. I have never voted for any of our current leadership, and never will. Is that too much of a long shot for our neighbors? Great question. We will find out. That's one of the factors in our decision to leave.
