https://open.substack.com/pub/popularinformation/p/top-congressional-republicans-bolster?utm_source=direct&r=1urel1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email Disgraceful. How is the former president still getting away with inciting violence to avoid his just desserts (this time facing indictment). Debasing the Manhattan DA as less than human and posting a pic of himself swinging a baseball bat menacingly next to a pic of Bragg on social media? And top GOP congresspeople support his violent rhetoric? When will this madness end?
Two things can be disgraceful. When will it end? When the powers that be quit charging Trump with things that are not crimes. The DA ran on "getting Trump." That is not how our justice system is supposed to work. Do I want Trump to be president? NO. Do I think Bragg should be prosecuting himn? NO
Why should Michael Cohen go to jail for Trump's illegal acts but not Trump himself? We don't actually know what, if anything, Bragg is planning to charge.
And if Trump hadn't been president at the time he would have been indicted right alongside Cohen. Imagine Trump loses in the 2024 primary. Would the investigations into him continue? Of course they would. These investigations are only political in the sense that voters in New York, or Fulton County, or the US as a whole want Trump to be held accountable for any crimes he may have committed. There's nothing wrong with prosecuting a former president, especially one who used the position as president to commit them. What we're seeing now is what would have happened had Ford not pardoned Nixon. But as long as he's a candidate he can spin any investigation as an effort to prevent him from winning the election.
