Old episode question but why aren’t Alicent’s kids non-blonde? Are male genetics that strong in this show? Yes she’s a redhead but it’s pretty dark. Rhaenyra is not attractive I don’t like the new actress at all.
They don't explain this but I wondered too. Alicent's kids have 1 brunette parent, as do Rhaenyra's children, so just luck I guess?
In GOT, one of the reasons that Ned Stark realizes Cersei's children are not Robert's is that for generations, EVERY Baratheon child (despite the hair color of the other parent) had brown hair. Not foolproof methodology, but I think you are supposed to think the Targaryen genes are similarly strong.
But that’s just the point, Rhanerya IS a Targaryen.
But so was her husband and (supposed) father of her children.
You are not hearing what I’m saying. Alicent’s kids had 1 Targaryen parent (Viserys) and 1 brown haired parent (Alicent.) Rhaenyra’s kids had 1 Targaryen parent (Rhaenyra) and 1 brown haired parent (Ser Harwin.) There is no reason one should have blond children and one should not.
It’s a recurring theme in Martin’s books that children strongly resemble only one parent. In the GOT books, of the Stark children, only Arya and Jon looked like Ned, with brown hair and grey eyes, while Robb, Sansa, Bran and Rickon all had red hair/blue eyes like their mother, and didn’t resemble Ned at all (the show departed from this a bit). And of course Rhaegar was Jon’s real father, but Jon only looked like his mother, with the Stark features, nothing Targaryen-like. Not really realistic with how traits are passed down, but I figure that’s true for this show as well.
This makes sense, I didn’t remember this from the books myself but it does seem true. This story is lazy, makes sense for a couple of Alicent’s kids to be very blonde, but not all of them.
It makes sense if hair color passes down from the father.
It doesn’t though. Jon Snow’s father was a Targaryen
