everyone will get it eventually. vaccines aren't designed to prevent infections. that's been news for like six months or so. vaccines prevent severe cases in most cases. you're stuck in march 2020.
So why the rush to get it ASAP?
No rush to get it. Most people are just treating it like the flu or any other coronavirus now, considering the less than flu level risk for vaccinated adults and unvaccinated children. If it was up to some people, we'd be taking tests every day and locking down for new variants for the rest of our lives. Not going to happen. It's funny that some people think that by not eating at a restaurant, they can avoid a highly transmissible respiratory virus that hangs in the air for hours. Or better yet, that giving up 2+ years of your life, especially your children's childhood, is worth it to avoid less than a flu level risk.
That is called "coronaphobia" and there are multiple medical articles on it. It seems to be prominent among wealthy people with far-left views, like a number of Arlingtonians.
So you think it is funny that my under 5 year old has health conditions which make him at risk for serious COVID complications. My older kids eating lunch outside is such a small price to pay for anyone's health. Not to mention the kids get more recess time with outdoor lunch. (They can play when they're done eating as opposed to waiting for everyone to finish before the class goes outside). Only in super red states would I be considered liberal, but keep it up with your assumptions and narrowmindedness.
COVID will be here forever. You act like it will be eradicated. It will not. In fact, everyone will get it. And we have procedures in place for immunocompromised people for bad flu seasons too. Did you demand such procedures for bad flu seasons too? The only narrowmindedness is acting like COVID will be eradicated.
I'm far from acting like COVID will be around forever. You are acting like simple mitigation measures are equivalent to giving up 2+ years of your life. We're in a surge right now. Someday there will be a vaccine for kids under 5. Tell me more about the procedures in place for immunocompromised people for bald flu seasons. I've never heard of any. Prior to COVID the only mitigation measure we were aware of was skipping activities that other families would send their sick kids to. The one family I know that had a child with cancer similarly just had to drastically scale down their interactions with the community (including what their older child could participate in) to protect the younger sibling. I think COVID has made a lot of people more aware that their choice to reject mitigation measures has a negative impact on people with health vulnerabilities. "I have wiped Larla's nose every day since Halloween and I have no idea why she keeps coughing, maybe I should take her to a doctor," said at a pre-COVID Christmas time by a parent who sends their kid to every activity unless they physically cannot get out of bed. People like this are selfish. Maybe they're overwhelmed and busy too, but selfish as well.
