I just want to know if it's safe to bring my young children to Zoo Lights or if teenagers are likely to start shooting at each other.
Well, it’s happened one time that I can recall, so no, I would not say it’s “likely” that teenagers will be shooting each other.
You must be new around here. It used to be an annual occurrence. Now seems semi annual. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/teen-stabbed-near-national-zoo/1898346/ https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/teen-suspect-in-zoo-shooting-has-difficult-past/61704/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/2000/10/26/17-year-old-admits-to-shootings-outside-zoo/ea85d446-54b1-40f4-8b4d-1de66b73ff6d/
Are you dense? An incident in 2014, an incident in 2012, and an incident in 2000 do not add up to “semiannual” doofus.
It's a regular thing. I'd expect mayhem at this event in the future based solely on past experiences, unless exclusionary methods are adopted. Even charging $5 admission would go a long way towards keeping out the sort of troublemakers who are doing this stuff. Criminals are notoriously cheap, especially teenage ones. Charging a token admission will screen most of them out. Charging an expensive admission would be even better.
I'd rather continue to take my chances on an extremely rare outbreak of violence and still have this event remain free than see them implement expensive admission charges.
Except it's not just your chances, right? It's everyone who attends chances...
So don’t go, if you’re really scared that something that has happened once in the history of zoo lights will happen again. But don’t demand that they start charging admission just to take the odds from really low to even lower.
So it'll just be you there taking your chances? Or since you are willing, you are just wishing the Shirley Jackson Lottery approach on everyone else?
Yes, GOING TO THE ZOO is exactly like being forced into a random drawing where one family is ritually murdered every year, correct. You haven't exaggerated the dangers involved here one whit.
it sure seems that way. It seems like you are all about a periodic sacrifice to the gods of violence. Oh, I haven't exaggerated? And yet two people were shot, some stores stripped of their shelves, owners punched in the face and sent to hospital and evacuation mayhem with small kids. But whatevs. "I'm willing to take my chances because life in the big city.."
