She's a good friend who's kept a circle of good friends for decades. She has been there for her friends, just like they have been there for her. She's a human being who - like all human beings - cares more about her own life than anyone else's. But I think we've seen her behave with integrity, even if she hasn't always made the decisions we would choose for her (or for ourselves). And I think there is zero chance she is going to ask Aiden to ditch his kid to spend more time with her. Do you think she will?
Carrie is not a good friend or a good person. This is well documented. The writers are extremely conscious about what the fans/critics are saying (listen to their podcast if you don't believe it). They know people are saying that Carrie better not break Aiden's heart again. So they are looking for a way for him to break hers. In her (dark) heart of hearts, she definitely expects Aiden to choose her, but he won't -- as he shouldn't. When she said "bones heal" that was her saying "this is a temporary problem". Aiden is a good man and a good dad, he's going to be there for his troubled kid. Carrie will move on, she always does.
