The family throws the wedding, and that has gifts. Or just do a please no gifts shower. It’s just a celebration. I think entertaining is more expensive and burdensome than it was for the slice of society that made these “rules” at the time they made them. The family is the logical host. Someone else doing it is too complicated and often leads to disappointment re guest lists and whatever. [/quote]
