The historic heat wave that’s scorched a great deal of the Pacific Northwest has been blamed for hundreds of deaths in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia in the past week. Oregon’s state medical examiner’s office said the extreme heat has killed at least 63 people in the state since Friday. In King County, Washington, which includes Seattle, nearly a dozen people died from the heat Wednesday. Lisa Lapointe, British Columbia’s chief coroner, said at least 486 sudden deaths had been reported between Friday and Wednesday and that number is set to increase.
Any stats on Mariposa heat deaths?
I don't think those heat deaths are relevant to Mariposa anyway, because inland California is used to having extreme heat and most people have air conditioning (as opposed to parts of the Pacific Northwest where they never get that kind of heat). Most people in Mariposa would have stayed indoors that day, obviously. So who knows why this family decided to go out to an area with no shade on an extremely hot day.
I agree. For all we know they got an early start and planned to hook up with someone and things went awry. Someone could have walked in from another access, parking in a different lot, or used an ATV. Perhaps they had pissed someone off. Who knows?
