[twitter]

What reason have the "rooted in Oakton" people given for staying at Oakton--other than that is what they want? As for purchasing a house for the schools, that could apply to any of the people who do not want to move. Anyone with a brain can see that it is ridiculous to send kids 10 to 12 miles away over a school that is 2 to 3 miles away. It is safer and cheaper to send them to the new school. Why should the taxpayers continue to pay to bus these kids on long bus rides that cost lots more dollars to the school system? The bus drivers cannot make as many runs. It requires more buses because of this. It requires more bus drivers. It requires more maintenance. It requires more gas/energy. This is not a straight 10-12 mile route. It either requires getting on 50 to I66--heavily trafficked, or taking winding and hilly back roads which are also heavily trafficked. This may be the stupidest choice Reid is making. That is just simple logic.
Their reasons as per the meeting at the school and the school board meeting where they had a few speakers have been a joke: 1. We bought our homes because of Oakton (so what? that's a risk) 2. Our kids' middle school friends are ALL going to Oakton (um, only if your kid is in AAP and even then, only like 1/3 of those kids are going to Oakton. For normal kids, none of their new friends are going to Oakton) 3. Our kids play in sports and do activities with only kids going to Oakton (um, nope, your kids play in CYA or CYA-affiliated clubs and most CYA kids go to Chantilly or Westfield) 4. Oakton is much closer to our homes (um, nope) 5. Crossing Fairfax County Parkway is dangerous (um, your kids do it for Carson, not to mention that the drive to Oakton is far more dangerous, kids either get on the highway or have to drive on windy narrow roads)
These RIO parents are borderline psychotic! They’re reasoning SCREAMS angry 2 year old throwing a fit on the floor of a Costco.
Same with those Crossfield parents who want to go to Western and try to silence Fox Mill’s voice. It must be in the water over there.
So, what’s funny is that the Fox Mill Neighborhood is shared between Crossfield and Fox Mill, with the border line being perpendicular to reign street. And let me jog the Crossfield Parents who want to move into western silencing the voices of Fox Mill parents’ short-span memories. In 2009, a contentious boundary change was done when Fox Mill was moved from Oakton to South Lakes. Fox Mill has grown into South Lakes, but shows strong desires to move into Western even though the school itself at 2611 Viking Drive is Equidistant between Western and South Lakes. So as contentious as it was, Fox Mill moved to a much closer school than Oakton, and can move to a school that aligns more with its identity. Crossfield can move to, and it will settle in, and they can share the school with Fox Mill. But thanks to Melanie Meren and RIO moms, Crossfield and Fox Mill are no longer under consideration to move to Western. And thanks to the Superintendent for not properly planning out what she was to do with the school (rezoning from a private school to a public school, yes), planned out modifications to the main and shell buildings with the addition of proper VHSL athletic fields (baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a soccer field [one is already provided on the site], and a proper football stadium), then setting a boundary, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Michelle Reid is an incompetent liar. Her and her arsenal of idiots need to leave because she has little to no follow through on anything she does, she’s ineffective, and her doorknob cronies are no better. She’s an old lady who probably should be retired and moved back to Washington State!
It is truly the height of stupidity to leave out not one but TWO elementary schools close to a new high school, all because Reid can’t stand up to whiners. Aren’t we all raising our children to learn that whining isn’t the way to get what we want? She is incentivizing it.
Well doesn’t she whine too? Or just cover up scandals and suggest bad ideas that a fifth grader would even question!
