Neutral Observer DMV Top 10 - Week of April 15th. 1. Landon (10-2): The Bears are cruising now, having won 8 straight including a domination of league rival Georgetown Prep last week. Landon looks like a complete team with athletes on both sides of the ball. I haven't seen a Landon team of this level of caliber since when HOF coach Bordley retired. DeMatha is on deck. 2. Gonzaga (7-4): After a tough start to the season, Gonzaga has won 7 straight. The Eagles will beat you with their athletes in the middle of a field and have been playing some very nice team offense with Gardiner leading the charge. Big games with Good Counsel and Landon next week will be games to watch. 3. Bullis (9-3): Jackson Mahar continues to show why he is considered the top recruit in the 2025 class. Bulldogs gave both Landon and Gonzaga all they could handle in the past two weeks. Expect their 2025 class to continue to improve with more game experience and make a run in the IAC playoffs. 4. Georgetown Prep (7-4): While the Hoyas were outmatched last Friday against Landon, they have plenty of top recruits and athletes to compete with anyone in the DMV. They will be right back in the thick of things to defend their IAC title. 5. St Johns (3-4): the young Cadets won a tight one last week against PVI. After a brutal non-league schedule, the Cadets seem to be coasting right now. Big contest vs Good Counsel tomorrow night. 6. Good Counsel (11-1): The Falcons are having their best season in over a decade, Dane Smith is turning this program around and fast. Huge game tomorrow vs the Cadets which is the game of the week. Fingers crossed their is a stream for it. 7. Paul VI (9-2): The Panthers played the Cadets in a very tight contest last week. Will they be a dark horse in the WCAC play-offs come May? Expect them to make a run in the VISSA state tournament. 8. Episcopal (7-4): The Maroon have had an up-down season which was to be expected given their graduation departures from last year. Episcopal is pretty young this year and Coach Conklin always has his team playing their best lacrosse in May. Expect them to be a dark horse like they always are in the VISSA state tournament. A tough contest against Christchurch looms. 9. DeMatha (5-4): The Stags have had some tough losses under first year head coach Matt Miller. The Stags always play hard and are always athletic. The Stags played Philadelphia powerhouse, LaSalle to a closer game than anyone was expecting. 10. St Albans 6-8): STA is young this season and has been inconsistent. Played Bullis somewhat close for a half this past week. A few observations... The IAC is turning into a 3 horse race with Landon as the clear front-runner. Bullis and Georgetown Prep will attle it out for the #2 playoff spot. Expect Bullis and GP to have some battles in the coming weeks as they will likely play each other again in the IAC semi-finals. Both St. Stephens and STA are down this Spring, Episcopal appears to be getting better. The WCAC could be up for grabs in my eyes. While I believe Gonzaga is the front-runner, you can't rule out the Cadets, PVI or even Good Counsel. We will know just how strong this Good Counsel team is after their game with SJC tomorrow. PVI is quietly having a good season with a record of (9-2), however the Panthers haven't played a challenging schedule.
