I vote blue, but most of Youngkin's policies will be good for my family assuming that he can get them passed. We'll get a tax cut and it will likely be at the expense of services that we don't use. Maybe we'll get a voucher that we'll essentially just view as a deduction in tuition that we don't need. I'm assuming it will be up to the counties to figure out how to fund vouchers and schools, and I'm sure Fairfax will have an easier time of it than already cash strapped rural counties. Maybe the state will cover the expense, but again, cuts will have to come from somewhere to pay for it. Maybe he passes abortion restrictions, but Maryland and DC are 20 minute drives from here. I guess firearm restrictions could become even looser, but if someone wants to cosplay at being a gunslinger I'll just chuckle.
Why did you vote for McAuliffe?
DP. This question tells us so much about you, and Republicans generally. You really can’t conceive that someone might vote against their own interests because they are affluent enough to absorb it and want to help people who are less fortunate than them? The reason the parties are so far about is because they have very different morals and values. Republican look out for themselves exclusively and say eff the rest of you. Democrats look at the world and feel like they can’t vote just to enrich themselves at the expense of others who have less when they already have more than enough.
All this. I know I personally will be fine under a Republican administration, maybe even better off financially. But lots of other people won't and I actually care about the wider world not just myself. I also think the Republicans' focus on disenfranchising anyone unlikely to vote for them is absolutely despicable and the biggest reason I would never vote for a Republican.
