The killer was trying to figure out how much time he/she would have to get out of house before police came. I think the McReynolds were involved. They had tickets to fly to Spain/Portugal just days after the murder. Santa was obsessed with JB and his wife wrote that play about a woman held in a basement and tortured. Their own daughter was kidnapped the same day 22 years prior. They would say they wanted to be left alone after the murders and live their quiet lives and then Santa showed up outside the a Today show trying to get on tv. He could not stay away from crime.
